The former Government House in Jerusalem was evacuated yesterday by the International Red Cross delegates and taken over by the United Nations truce observers. Government House was included in the second demilitarized zone in Jerusalem which was defined on September 6 after serious clashes between Israeli and Egyptian troops in the grounds of Government House.

Government House (“Armon HaNetziv”) is a historic building in southern Jerusalem, originally built as the residence of the British High Commissioner during the Mandate period. After 1948, it became the headquarters of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO), overseeing ceasefires and armistice agreements in the region. Today, it remains a UN facility and symbolizes the international presence in Jerusalem and the city’s complex political history.
