The Irgun Zvai Leumi have informed the military governor of Jerusalem, Dr. Bernard Joseph, that, while they object in principle to the appointment of a military governor and the declaration of Jerusalem as occupied territory, they will submit to the governor’s decisions.

In an agreement between the Israelite defence army and the Irgun, Irgun will maintain their independent military formations but will coordinate their activities with the army’s.

Truce violations in the Jerusalem area have continued, and during Saturday afternoon an American consulate guard was wounded as the American consulate car came into the line of fire between the Arab Legion and the Israelite defence army positions in the Sheikh Jarrach quarter. The American Consul-General protested to the Israelite army but was told that the Jewish soldiers returned the fire of the Arab Legion troopers only when the consulate car had passed.

The mediator, Count Bernadotte, is expected in Jerusalem tomorrow to resume negotiations on the demilitarization of Jerusalem and the resumption of the water supply to the civilian population of the city.
