Apparently because of the Muslim fast of Ramadan, the Arab forces are refraining from fighting during the daytime, when the Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset, and artillery duels are fought here every night, both sides using the heaviest weapons at their disposal. An Egyptian Spitfire last night dropped a number of bombs on Jewish Jerusalem, but only little damage was caused. A second air raid started at 1 o’clock this morning, but lasted for 10 minutes only.
Most of the civilian population are carrying out their daily work in reinforced shelters. The distribution of food, water, and other essential commodities has not been interrupted by the shellings.
The Irgun Zvai Leumi and the Stern gang have announced that they will regard any foreign troops—American, Belgian, French, or others—as invaders, even if they came to Jerusalem as a United Nations army to enforce the internationalization of the Holy City.
